Riders to Watch at X Games Minneapolis

July 12, 2017

X Games Minneapolis is set to go off this week, and a bunch of Nitro riders and Nitro World Games competitors in FMX, BMX, and skate are poised to make podium runs. The FMX field in particular is loaded with riders you can see at most Nitro shows, and a handful of Nitro BMX riders are also in Minneapolis looking for gold. Those riders include James Foster, Andy Buckworth, and Kurtis Downs, a Nitro veteran making his X Games debut. Kurtis has worked super hard, and with a second-place finish at the 2016 Nitro World Games under his belt, he’ll look to add some more hardware to his collection this weekend. Buckworth and Foster will compete in BMX Dirt, with the finals on Sunday, and Foster and Downs will compete in Big Air, with the finals on Friday. Colton Satterfield and Zack Warden will also be throwing down in the BMX Big Air event.

On the FMX side, we’ve got riders in every event, and Nitro athletes are dominating the field in terms of numbers for Moto X Best Trick and Moto X Freestyle. Josh Sheehan, Adam Jones, Harry Bink, Jarryd McNeil, Beau Bamburg, Jackson Strong, Nate AdamsTaka Higashino, and Clinton Moore are among the riders competing, some in multiple events. Levi Sherwood, fresh off wins at Nitro World Games and X Fighters Madrid, will compete in Best Trick and Freestyle. The Freestyle finals are Friday and the Best Trick finals are Saturday. McNeil will compete in Step Up and Best Whip, where he’s always a favorite to make the podium. Both of those events will have finals on Saturday.

Noteworthy athletes who made a splash at Nitro World Games and are always serious contenders at X Games and any competition they enter: Elliot Sloan and Andy Macdonald, podium finishers at NWG, will both compete in Skate Vert, with finals on Thursday, and Sloan will also vie for the gold in Skateboard Big Air, with finals on Saturday. Colton WalkerNick Bruce, Logan Martin, Daniel Sandoval, and Brian Fox are also in on the BMX side.
