Nitro FMX Dominates at X Games Austin

June 9, 2016

Nitro Circus FMX athletes came up big at X Games Austin. There was at least one Nitro Athlete on the podium for every one of the FMX events, and in a couple, it was a clean sweep. Jarryd McNeil kicked off the weekend with a tie for gold in the Step Up competition, despite being a rookie in the event. He also successfully defended his Best Whip title. Clinton Moore had an incredible competition, achieving his lifelong dream of winning an X Games medal not once but three times, for Freestyle, QuarterPipe, and Best Trick. Tom Pagès and Josh Sheehan were the other two medalists on the QuarterPipe podium. The Best Trick competition might as well have been called the Vegemite Bowl, with an Aussie sweep featuring Jacko Strong, Sheeny, and Moore. Sheeny competed in four events this year, collecting a gold in Freestyle in addition to his two silvers.

Sheeny, Jacko, and Moore sweep the Best Trick podium.

Perhaps the craziest story of the weekend is Jacko Strong’s trip to the gold in the Best Trick event. After throwing a huge Double Drop on the QuarterPipe, he landed hard, hitting his neck on the handlebar. He was air-lifted to the hospital to get it checked out. The CT scans cleared him to go, so he hopped back in the chopper and headed right back to the competition, just in time for the Best Trick event. And to show the world what Aussies are made of, he stuck a frontflip, winning the gold. Check out the full story here. And watch the video here:

This guy blows my mind… When it all comes down to it he threw it all on the line again for the ultimate prize… Another gold medal…. After crashing so hard in qtr pipe, getting air lifter to hospital for CT scans on his neck, he somehow convinced the hospital staff to not only let him out, but get the same chopper ride he came in on to get back in time to line up for best trick… Arrived after intros, dropped in, hucked a front flip and won the contest… With a hospital band still on his wrist 😂😂😂 of thats not commitment then I don't know what is! @jackostrong your a dead set mad dog! And it probably goes unnoticed because best trick hasn't been at X games for a couple of years but that's a 3-peat of gold for this aussie mad dawg!!! Congrats buddy! 'You deserve it' dosent even do it justice !!! #madcunt #straya #legend #oneofakind #thatslivin #goodthanks #urwelcome

That’s right, Bilko was there too, taking part in his 10th X Games. Nitro’s resident funnyman kept the gang entertained during the rain delays.

Could be a slight delay for Best trick 😂😂😂 @xgames @takafmx trying to fly high!

Bilko helped keep the vibe fun and relaxed between events. Just like you’ll find at any Nitro Circus Live show, athletes could be seen cheering each other on, while trying to outdo each other with sick tricks.
