X Games Sydney was a battle, and not just for the competitors. The competition organizers had some of the toughest challenges, combating the thing we’re always going to lose against: mother nature. From switching around schedules to crews trying to make mud turn magically into dirt, there was some serious conflict and a lot of hard work going on.
The Best Whip contest is a highlight at every X Games. The event was created around Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, who stood alone as the most decorated rider in this contest over the years with four gold medals. But this was Jarryd McNeil’s chance to tie that record. Check out the full broadcast right here:
There was nothing but turmoil ahead of him as one American and a slew of Aussies put their motorcycles sideways in an effort to stand atop the podium. Highlights include Axell Hodges, who finished third, doing the best turn-up ever done in a contest. He dislocated his shoulder three days before and represented as the only American in the final. Corey Creed took home the silver, representing himself exceptionally well and will be invited back for sure.
Steve Mini and Josh Sheehan also repped the Nitro Circus Live family extremely well, as did Blake “Bilko” Williams on commentating duties.
When the smoke cleared and the rain let up, Jarryd had done banger after banger, and with the judges’ overall impression being the contest decider, he earned his seventh X Games gold medal, his fourth in this event, and is the reigning undisputed FMX whip king.
You can see that huge whip on tour with Nitro Circus Live, which is headed to Europe soon. Click here for tickets and info!
