With the same excitement as a kid before Christmas and a van packed full of bikes, snowboards, skateboards, and contraptions, the Nitro Circus crew headed east from our Southern California headquarters to Park City, Utah, to experience the newest addition to Woodward’s family of terrain parks: the long awaited and much hyped Woodward Park City.
As we pulled into scenic Park City, we couldn’t help but to notice a jump line off the highway in the distance. It even looked like it had its own dedicated chairlift. With a Woodward sign pointing us in that direction, we determined immediately that this is no ordinary Woodward.
Chris Gunnarson, Powdr’s SVP of Youth Development, and the legend Jeremy Jones (street), who is working with Woodward’s athlete community, were waiting for Nitro with open arms to take us on a private tour of the new facilities. Some highlights include built-in fire pits around the skatepark, Red’s backyard snow jib line, and the fact that riders can literally unstrap out of their snowboards or kick off their skis and hop right on a skateboard or BMX bike within seconds. Insert Mind Blown emoji.
We then ventured indoors, where there’s a full concrete park, foam pits, a parkour course, and even gymnastic air awareness grounds. The attention to detail that went into this state-of-the-art training facility is like nothing you’ve ever seen. From the innovation of the course design to the safety precautions taken so athletes can train in a controlled environment, there is no doubt that Woodward’s build team, led by Nate Wessel, spent years developing such an exceptional training facility. The hype is real.
Woodward rolled out the red carpet for an army of invited athletes, all of whom are legends in their respective sports, and their families to experience this incredible facility. The delicious welcome dinner and live music entertainment made the vibe unreal. Everyone involved could feel something special sparked within the action sports community. The Nitro crew wasted no time and took full advantage of the new facilities by spending a bit of time working on new tricks fans will be able to see in the upcoming 2020 You Got This tour.
We can’t wait to go back.
